Hi,
Just out of curiosity, how do you go about scanning a poster in full size?

I read somewhere that it's best to take a picture of the poster outside laying on the ground during light clouds.

You would be better off taking a high resolution image. Check out the "super-sized" images for any of the posters here:
FFF Movie Posters
The original versions of these photographs are actually much larger, but there's still a ton of detail picked up in the photographs at web resolution.

If the poster is not available digitally (some very old movies) a high-quality scan will do. But these are more exceptions than the rule.

That matter depends on various facts. You can take an image also.
But you can get the original posters from different sources. Like
Conway's Vintage Treasures have lots of original collections.
